Yes, we were also approved in March 2016 for an Idaho state funded grant (IGEM) to work with Boise State University’s Biomechanics Research lab (COBR).
Independent testing started 1/15/17 & the completed white paper is now available as of January 2018:
– Clinical, independent testing at Boise State University (white paper published January 2018) using a motion analysis system showed equivalent inversion protection plus better range of motion & vertical jump versus a brace or tape
“Of all the devices (Ankle Roll Guard, brace, tape), only the Ankle Roll Guard appears to allow the user normal ankle motion while preventing excessive
        ankle inversion.”
— Tyler Brown, PhD, CSCS, Boise State University Dept. of Kinesiology, white paper principle investigator

The cushion is only 1.5 inches from the side of the shoe so the chance of another player tripping or landing on it are slim.  In 5 years of use, there have been no issues.

The Ankle Roll Guard can be used on all low or high top athletic (walking/running/tennis/basketball) shoes or cleats. It will work on most other shoe types, boots, or orthotic shoes but e-mail or call us if you have any questions.  One-size-fits-majority (generally adult shoe sizes 5-16 depending on the shoe & foot width) and it comes in left or right for optimal fit.  The Ankle Roll Guard will also work on some closed toe sandals and can be modified to work on larger sized bare feet.  We are also developing a kids size Ankle Roll Guard, stay tuned!

First, remove the Ankle Roll Guard from your shoe.  Then push the under sole strap up through the cushion until it is completely out.  This will then allow you to pull the strap from the Velcro loops and adjust up or down.  When done, push the strap back through the cushion.  It is suggested to periodically adjust the strap to prolong the life of the strap from repeated wear in one spot.  To replace the strap, follow the instructions above to adjust and simply replace the old strap with the extra strap provided in the package.  You can also purchase extra replacement straps from our web site. Reference the “Detailed Fitting Instructions(PDF)” in our “Help & Support” tab.

Yes the Ankle Roll Guard can be worn regularly throughout the day.  Unlike a restrictive, uncomfortable brace, the Ankle Roll Guard fits on the outside of your shoe and is very light (2.4 ounces) allowing your ankle full mobility and comfort.  Some of our customers have told us they don’t even notice they have it on!  Regarding the strap, it is made out of a very durable, abrasive resistant rubber material that should last anywhere from 3-12 months depending on the activity, duration, and ground surface. The product comes with an extra strap and they can also be purchased individually on anklerollguard.com or amazon.com

Putting on or removing the Ankle Roll Guard only requires wrapping the main body around the shoe and securing the strap under the arch of the shoe.  The Ankle Roll Guard can also be left on the shoe.  See our fitting instructions video posted on our website in the “Videos” or “Help & Support” tabs
